England's lakes and rivers play a vital role in water provision, our leisure, recreation and health and well-being. However, in addition to ongoing concerns about urban diffuse water pollution, the quality of our open waters needs to be improved – according to the Government only 27% of our water-bodies in England are of ‘good status’ under new standards set by the EU Water Framework Directive.

Following two recent White Papers, the Government held a consultation 'Tackling water pollution from the urban environment', to inform and influence the development of a Government strategy in this area in 2013. A summary of responses to the consultation followed. The Government strategy is to be published in due course.

This special symposium provides an invaluable opportunity for local authorities, regulatory bodies and other key stakeholders to discuss the latest Government thinking and explore innovative solutions to tackle and manage the problem of water pollution now and for generations to come.

For further details about the symposium, please refer to the event brochure. Do feel free to circulate this information to relevant colleagues within your organisation.

In the meantime, to ensure your organisation is represented, please book online or complete and return the registration form at your earliest convenience in order to secure your delegate place(s).
