The Crane Valley Partnership’s plan to establish a Crane Valley Trail – stretching along the river corridor from North Harrow to the Thames at Isleworth – has had a major boost with the news that the project is set to receive over £430,000 from the Mayor’s Green Roots Fund.

The Green Roots Fund supports projects to create and improve blue and green infrastructure in London. It’s open to local authorities and not-for-profit organisations and £12 million has been made available over a three year period. Supported projects can last up to two years. Competition for the Green Roots Fund awards is intense so a successful bid is something to be very proud of.

The Crane Valley Trail bid was made on behalf of CVP by the Crane Valley Community Interest Company (CVCIC), host of the partnership. Delivering the Crane Valley Trail is one of six strategic objectives set out in CVP’s new Catchment Plan.

The grant award money will be used to enhance access (removing physical and other barriers), add interpretation and waymarking, and help to develop online information resources. The GRF money will complement funding from other sources, for example money that local authorities have earmarked for path improvement works.

CVCIC’s Crane Valley Trail project manager has already been liaising with the relevant landowners, land managers and contractors to define the route and identify where investment is needed.
